Private key guide

How to handle the .p8 download.

Apple lets you download the private key file only once. This page explains how to get that file into AllMyApps, and what to check if the download or Apple’s validation fails.

Download once Use a Mac if iPhone fails Team Key iPhone Keychain
01 The download

Save the private key the first time Apple offers it.

On the Team Keys page, use Download API Key in the row for the AllMyApps key. The Key ID and the .p8 file must belong to the same key.

  1. Download the .p8 as soon as Apple shows the link. The link disappears after you use it, and Apple does not keep another copy.
  2. Keep the file private until you import it into AllMyApps. Do not put it in a code repository, and do not send it by email or chat.
  3. If the download link is already gone, create a new Team Key named AllMyApps, download its .p8 immediately, and use that new Key ID.
02 iPhone and iPad

If the .p8 download fails on iPhone or iPad.

Apple’s download can fail on iPhone or iPad. Get the file on a Mac, move it directly to your iPhone, then import it in AllMyApps.

  1. Download the .p8 on a Mac from App Store Connect.
  2. Transfer it to your iPhone with AirDrop or the Files app. Do not email it.
  3. In AllMyApps, tap Choose .p8 File and select that file.
  4. After AllMyApps verifies the key, delete the temporary copies on the Mac and in Files.
03 Validation

If AllMyApps cannot validate the key.

If Apple rejects the credentials, check these in order:

  1. The Issuer ID and Key ID have no extra spaces.
  2. The selected .p8 file belongs to that Key ID.
  3. The key is a Team Key with the Sales and Reports role, and has not been revoked.
  4. The Vendor Number belongs to the App Store Connect account you are connecting.

If an agreement is still missing App Store Connect can accept the key and still withhold sales reports until the Account Holder accepts a required agreement. Accept it on the Agreements page in App Store Connect, then try again in AllMyApps.

04 Revoking the key

Disconnecting AllMyApps does not revoke the key at Apple.

Removing the account inside AllMyApps leaves the key active in App Store Connect. If the .p8 file was exposed, or you no longer use it, revoke it on the Team Keys page. A revoked key stops working in AllMyApps immediately. Generate and connect a new key before you revoke the old one if you plan to keep using the app.

05 Privacy

Your key stays on your iPhone.

AllMyApps keeps the private key in the iOS Keychain on that iPhone. It does not send your API key, sales reports, or business metrics to a MarcN Apps server. Requests go directly to Apple.
